Tick head left behind

My cat had a big tick on his forehead (next to his ear), but when I was trying to pull it off he squirmed so much that the head broke off and stayed behind.
He now has a small, hard bump there with a scab... Should I pull the scab off and try and open the wound to get the head out? Or should I leave it alone? My gut feel is to try and get the bad stuff out and open it up, but I don' t want to do that unnecessarily.

He' s fine otherwise, still full of energy and eating normally.
