Our expert says:
Yes, there is a test to determine if ovulation has taken place in the current cycle and that is to check the progesterone level around day-21 in a 28-day cycle. There are also other tests such as the assessment of the luteinizing hormone [LH] at around the mid0cycle to see if there is an increase in the LH levels. This can be determined by either blood testing or more conveniently urine testing by commercially available test kits. However in terms of a retrospective assessment it is very difficult to determine when one has already ovulated if far from the time that ovulation has occurred.
