Dear Rita
Swollen ankles can be caused by heart failure, abnormal kidneyfunction, blocked lymph circulation. The cause needs to be treated, so your doctor needs to determine the cause first. Taking symptomatic medication like water tablets can cause low potassium levels, heart arrythmias and other side effects, so should rather be avoided.
