Swollen ankle

Good Day,

I have a swollen ankle and want to know what might have caused it.

I am 47 years old and didn't hurt the ankle.

Regards
Joan

Dear Joan
If it is just on the one side it could be due to a vein or lymph obstruction ( like a deep vein thrombosis), it could also be due to inflammation of the joint like gout if the ankle is red, warm and painful. If both ankles are swollen this could be due to hart failure or kidney problems.
