I' ve read and heard a couple of times that the more you sweat, the fitter you are. Is this really true or is it one of those things people say to make you feel better about the sweatyness?

Hi sash

Other way around - the fitter you are, the more you sweat. That is true, and it happens because your body "learns" that you can lose more heat, and it allows you to sweat more.

This is a positive response (a bit gross, of course), because it's part of teh reason you can exercise harder when you are fitter. Remember also that the main thing determining sweating is the exercise intensity - the harder you exercise, the more you sweat. So a fit person also tends to increase exercise intensity and they sweat more for that reason also.
