Sudden acute earache

Hi, My 8 year old had to see how deep the diving pool is and went down and shot up like a cork clutching his ear saying it burst. It is obviously very very sore and he only went to sleep after some painkiller. What do we don about that. ? He had a burst ear drum at age 7 months and then grommets

Dear Boggelocks
Let your doctor have a look at the ear as soon as possible. If you suspect that the eardrum is burst do not put ANY medication into the ear ( some drops can cause a chemical irritation of the hearing nerve, which is now exposed to the outside world and this can cause deafness) Put a piece of cottonwool loosly in the ear opening, and give him a fairly strong painkiller like Stopayne. Try not to get water into the ear ( use a blob of prestik to block the ear opening if you want to wash his hair)
