STROKE PATIENT

Hi Doc
Please could you advise based on the following :
1.Mum had stroke on Saturday, 27 Feb aged 77. Has been hypertensive for about 4 years.
2. Throat muscles have not been responding to any treatment thus far. Being fed through a nasal tube with Ensure.
3. Given that mouth is very dry has been using a cloth to keep mouth wet. (no fluid instruction by ward dr due to water on heart last Tuesday?)
4. Yesterday, she was not as responsive + constantly wanted a wet cloth for her head and skin (although obviously aged) was very elastic.
5. Unable to speak to any drs as she is in Baragwanath?
Anything we can do? How dangerous is this?
Many many thanks
Shamima

Hallo Shamima
Sorry to hear about your mom. It is difficult for me to give an opinion on how serious her condition is. Is she on a drip if no fluids are given? Ask the sister who the treating doctor is. Then phone the switchboard and ask them to beep the doctor for you to try and get hold of him/her. Alternatively try to find out what time they normally do their ward rounds and try to be there at that time.
