Stroke &  Mental Illness

Hi there Doc,

Could you please tell me if it is possible that if someone has suffered a mild stroke, could they have developed some kind of mental illness as a result? For example, depression, personality disorder etc. and not be aware of this?

Thanks

Dear Lily
Definitely - they can be more emotionally unstable, cry easily, get angry outbursts. If it is a big problem, one can ask your doctor to refer the patient to a psychiatrist for evaluation and medication if needed
