Our expert says:
I'm not sure about your repeated question about being pregnant are you pregnant right now, and considering treatment ? or are you not pregnant, wanting to start a treatment for depression, but want to feel free to become pregnant during such treatment ?
If you are pregnant now, it would vbe adviseable to see a good local shrink for a full assessment and a proper discussion of the options. St John's Wort would probably have similar slight risks as Prozac which it resembles in its chemical effects. There are risks to the foetus / baby associated with using any antidepressant, including Wort, but less with some than others ; and there are risks to the foetus / baby from being seriously depressed and without proper treatment of that. So one needs to expertly balance the risks and benefits of all options.
If you're not currently pregnant, it might be best to plan to clear up the depression before choosing to bcome pregnant.
Also, CBT ( Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy ) is an effective TALKING treatment for depression, which research finds similar in benefit to antidepressants, and with no risk to a pregnancy.
