Dear Peter
The report basically means that she has degenerative (normal wear and tear) changes in the spine that occur in most of us as we age.
She has narrowing of the disc spaces which means that the little cushion (disc) between the vertebrae is becomming thinner. This can ultimately lead to the vertebrae touching each other and can cause discomfort and sometimes pain. The ostephytes are little bone spurs that can cause irritation and pressure on the surrounding nerves and tissue.
They cannot see an extra rib and no malignant bone lesions.
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like Voltaren, Brufen and many others can be taken. Mobilising exercises like Pilates and moderate physiotherapy can also help.
