Spleen removed

Good day

Is it true that your immune system is significantly compromised after having your spleen removed? How so?

And if so, is it necessary to supplement your diet with vitamins and minerals?

Thank you

Your immune system is not compromised. A splenectomy does not influence the production of white blood cells. The spleen's function is a reservoir of blood and it also cleans the blood from abnormal white blood cells.
