Smokers

Hi - I would like to know if smokers (1 pack a day) are supposed to cough up phlegm with brown specks in it ? Thank you

Yes, the phlegm will be darker in colour. Due to irritation there are cells present in the phlegm, causing the brownish colour. A brownish colour could aslo be due to infection or a small amount of blood. Usually, blood in the sputum is bright red in colour. The only obvious advice, is to stop smoking.
