slightly different neurological question

Hi
I know this isn''t sleep-related, but hope you don''t mind answering:
I have a friend (46, female), who has a history of alcohol dependence of 15 years. What are the signs of alcohol-related brain damage?

Her memory is very poor - she keeps repeating herself. This is of course worse while she is drunk, but she also often has blackouts. Is this just due to intoxication at the stage or a sign of brain damage by now?
