is it possible to train your body to cope with a lower amount of time for sleep say for example from 8hrs to 6hrs?

No. The amount of sleep you require is genetically determined and cannot be changed. You can get away with a lesser amount for a while, but sooner or later you will need to "pay back what you owe".
