shoulder pain

Dear Shoulder Doc

I have pain under my shoulder blades, sometimes shooting pains between the shoulder blades too. My left arm is very painful, the nerve running down my arm is sending throbbing (shooting pains down my arm)

What can this be.

Thanks
Micky

Dear Micky,

It sounds as if your symptoms are caused by a compression of a nerve in your neck. It may well be a disc between the vertebrae causing the pressure (often referred to as a "slipped disc"). you could see a physio and if her treatment is not successful she might refer you to a neurosurgeon

All the best,
Dr Joe de Beer
