Shin splints

I have a 3 year old son who often complains about pains in legs, close to his shin, what could the cause beand could it be shin splints at such a young age?

They sometimes get "growing pains" in the longbones of the legs due to overexertion. Usually Panado and a heatpack/hotwaterbottle works quite well - just be careful not to make it too hot. If the area is tender or red, you feel any lumps, he walks with a limp, he loses weight or seems unwell overall, he needs to see a pediatrician to exclude other serious causes like a tumour or bone marrow disease
