Dear Liezel
The term 'serving' is used interchangeably with 'portion size'. So you can either use 1 serving or 1 portion to describe a quantity of food from a given food group. So for whole grains 1/2 cup is both the serving size and one portion.
Hope this helps

Doctor i also read something interesting in the article:

they wrote that you dont have to go on a certain diet to lose weight, you just have to control your food " servings"  as they call it and change the way you prepare your food.]

for instants if you want to braai wors ,chicken or meat, first remove visible fat braai it either over a " braaifire"  or fry it in olive oil or canola oil or cook it in boiling water or grill-steamed ur meat..

if you want to eat a serving of pumpkin(or other certain vegetables).prepare it with flora butter(2-3 teaspoons) ,add canderol sweeteners instead of regular white sugar

the same with spinach, instead of full cream milk add skim milk.

instead of eating 2 servings of wors or burgers eat one serving with either low gi bread(wholewheat bread),long grain rice(brown rice or basmati rice) or cooled down maize meal pap(also look at your servings)

like pulchards and " boelie"  beef in the cans or mince, prepare it the same way as you do but instead of normal fish oil use canola or olive oil with onions and tomato with either long grain rice or spaghetti.add also acids like vinegar ,low fat joghurt on cook potatoes, low salad dressing, low fat mayonesse and apple cider to ur food to lower your gi of the foods.

in the article they also mention there is nothing wrong if you add spices, curry and beefstock in your food just as long as you remove visible fat,use canola or olive oil,add sweeteners to your food instead of white sugar and use skim milk instead of full cream milk.

i wrote to you a part of the article because it really make sense
doctor,if you just change your preparing of food ,reduce your food servings and avoid fat, full cream milk, low fat joghurt and white sugar because that is how we always prepare our food and what we use daily.they also mention 4-5 exercises in the article.

but im not an expert,i would like to know what you think of this article doctor and what is your opinion.

thank you
doctor
