Sebaceous Cyst

Hi Doc

The lump behind my ear is an infected sebaceous cyst. I just want to know if it needs draining should my doctor do that? Is it dangerous if i maybe prick it with a needle myself?

Dear Anonymous
Rather let your doctor drain it properly - we usually put something on that anesthetizes the skin and cut a proper hole to drain all the pus - if you just puncture it the hole closes up too quickly and the whole thing starts again! And it is very painful anyway, so don't do this to yourself!
