Retroverted uterus

Hi doc,

Is it true that it is more difficult to conceive with a retroverted uterus? What are the best intercourse positions to ensure that the sperm gets to the uterus?

Is it true that it helps to lie on your tummy during intercourse &  thereafter to lie with a pillow under your pelvis?

Thank you!

Dear Lulu

There is a significant difference between a mobile retroverted uterus and a fixed retroverted uterus. Also the position of the cervix relative to the uterus is important in terms of facilitating sperm, passage into the uterine cavity. Therefore simple positional changes may not necessarily correct the problem and also during intercourse an orgasm there are changes in the uterine position. Your gynaecologist would be best to assess the type of retro-version and cervix faction that you have.
