Reinforcing steel plates

I would like to know what kind of steel is used for the plates and screws used in reinforcing bone fractures, and is it necessary for these to be surgically removed eventually? If so, why?

Dear Viv

Thank you for visiting health24.com.

Surgical stainless steel rods and plates are used. They are only removed when a patient experience complications of these foreign objects in their bodies, i.e. chronic pain in the ficsated area.

Kind regards
