Re Ovaltine

Ovaltine contains trans fatty acid. I am surprised you are recommending such a thing for pre-schoolers when it is one of those things that should be avoided completely by people of all ages.

Dear Michelle
Many foods, including unprocessed meat and products like butter also contain trans-fatty acids, so to achieve a diet that is totally devoid of all trans-fatty acids would be practically impossible - even the human body makes trans-fatty acids during the production of acetyl Co-A in the mitochondria, so it is not really possible to totally avoid these fats. In addition SA food manufacturers are making a concerted effort to reduce the content of trans-fatty acid in their products. Contact Nestle (011) 889-6116 to check on their progress.
