re heartache 1095

Hi CS

Is it really possible just to suppress and switch off the ache by conscious thought manouvering?

I have always been a feelings first, thought second personality type. Surely the ache and pain is just something one has to live with and work through such that it eventually dies a natural death. The fantasies don''t involve the future, they involve what " could have been" . Is bthis still picking at the scab?

Thanks

Sasha

Its remarkable what one can achieve "just" by learning to use one's mind and the mind-body interface. People can learn to voluntarily relax, to lower blood pressure and pulse rate, and so on. Learning to "just" live with aches and pains is an excellent method of controlling the pain. And fantasies of "what could have been" are a recipe for regret and discomfort, as the past cannot be changed - it was whatever it was. What we can change is the future, and the attitude we choose to hold about the past.
Continuing to choose to brood over aspects of the past prevents them from fading as they otherwise would do
