Our expert says:
The most likely cause is what is called carpel tunnel syndrome. This is where the median nerve, originating from the neck and travelling down the arm and through a small fibrous 'tunnel' in the wrist to the fingers. From sleeping with your wrist in a flexed position the nerve gets 'trapped' at the wrist causing the numb, dead ' sleepy' feeling.
Wearing a wrist guard to prevent the flexion helps, but if it persists try a chiropractor and if that doesn't resolve the problem you may need to consult with an orthopaedic surgeon.
