Proton Pump Inhibitors

Been reading about proton pump inhibitors and that they can clear up H. Pylori Infection. Would these need to be prescribed by a docotor, or are they readily available over the counter? How effective are they in the treatment hereof? Would I need to be propertly diagnosed by a doctor? Been suffering with this condition for many many years. Please help.

Dear Gina
You will need a prescription. We often give antibiotics with the PPI to reduce bacterial load. They are very effective if given for the right indication and given in the right dosage for sufficient time. The best doctor to see would be a gastroenterologist.
