Our expert says:
A moderate increase in protein intake is not harmful, but excessive intakes should be avoided. In general most South Africans in any case eat much more than the 60g of protein that are recommended per day. A good rule is to have a moderate portion of a protein containing food at each main meal (e.g. milk, yoghurt, cottage cheese and other cheeses, lean meat, fish, eggs, and legumes which include dry cooked or canned beans, peas, lentils or soya). To develop muscles you also need to do plenty of exercise with weights and this can take a long time.
