Proteus Mirabilis

Hi Doc. My gynae did a swob and told me i have Proteus Mirabilis. How could i have got this? What are the signs/symptoms please. Could chest/back pains be caused by this? Thank you.

It is a bacteria that one finds in stool and you may have inadvertently infected yourself by wiping the wrong way (back to front instead of front to back) It causes urinary tract infections and may cause vaginal infections. It may cause back ache if you have a urinary tract infection.
