prostate FAQ

hi

i have some questions, please assist:
1. When they remove the prostate, is it just a normal operation?
2. Does this have any effect on the sexual performance?

Dear Gwen
They can remove the prostate from the top (cut above the pelvic bone) or from the inside (through the ureter or urine tube) depending on what they operate for. It can cause impotence, often temporarily, but depending on how big the operation is ( i.e. if they have to remove a big cancer - called "radical prostatectomy") it can be permanent.
