There is an increased chance of her getting diabetes or high blood pressure in pregnancy. There is about a 1 in 25 chance of the baby having Down syndrome.

Best wishes

John, its not ''unhealthy'' for women of over 40 to fall pregnant, Just somewhat more risky as the body is not always as prepared as when a woman is younger. Best bet is to find a real good gynea to discuss your concerns etc. Cherie Blair (ex British Prime Minister''s wife) had a baby at age 45 and all was well for instance! Only thing is that when baby grows up the age gap between you as parents and the child will be rather big, but if you want a child of your own that should never stand in your way.
