Please help

Hi, im a mother of twins (19years old) and the one never goes out, she' s scared of people, sleeps all the time, crying and feeling depressed all the time. She is also harming herself (burning and cutting). I don' t know what to do anymore because she is not a little child anymore. She needs to face life. Her sister moved out in the beginning of the year thats when her moods started. One second she is very depressed and the next she is EXTREMELY happy and then suddenly she cries again. I don' t know whats going on... Plz help.

Interesting that the twins are appaently responding somewhat differently to the situation. Presumably this is, indeed related to a bad and incapable reaction to her sister moving out, and perhaps to an excessive dependency on her sister. The self-harm and other aspects of this reaction are typical of a somewhat immature girl finding it hard to cope, and feeling desperate, lacking positive ways of coping with a sense of major loss. She should see an experienced and skilled shrink for assessment and a discussion of treatment options, and fairly soon, before this maladaptive behaviour becomes a bad habit. It should be practical if she works well with her shrink, for her to learn greater self-confidence and a wider repertoire of ways of coping
