Our expert says:
Interesting that the twins are appaently responding somewhat differently to the situation. Presumably this is, indeed related to a bad and incapable reaction to her sister moving out, and perhaps to an excessive dependency on her sister. The self-harm and other aspects of this reaction are typical of a somewhat immature girl finding it hard to cope, and feeling desperate, lacking positive ways of coping with a sense of major loss. She should see an experienced and skilled shrink for assessment and a discussion of treatment options, and fairly soon, before this maladaptive behaviour becomes a bad habit. It should be practical if she works well with her shrink, for her to learn greater self-confidence and a wider repertoire of ways of coping
