platue

hi doc

i have been on a low calorie and low card diet from 1 april 2010 and i have lost 20 kg todate, the problem is i seem to have hit a platue because evr since this month started i have been stuck on 91 kg, in july i joined the gym and there i managed to lose 8 kg till now, what could be the problem Iam still doing the same things never cheated and i intensified my work outs.

please help!?

Firstly congratulations on losing 20 kg - you are a bright ***star***. The problem with hitting a weightloss plateau is that the body adjusts to a lower energy intake because it perceives that it is being 'starved'. Then there is also the problem that the Basic Metabolic Rate decreases as you lose weight and fat mass, which means you need fewer kilojoules to keep your body going. I don't know what kind of exercises you do at the gym, but ask the instructor to let you concentrate on doing cardio workouts because cardio exercise stimulates the metabolism more efficiently than working with weights. If you find that you are still not losing after making the adjustments in your exercise, then it may be a good idea to have a medical examination just to check if you don't have a hormone imbalance (thyroid, insulin or female hormones (PCOS)).
Don't give up when you have lost such a stunning amount of weight.
