Hi Anna

Pets mince is ok for your pets as long as it has been scientifically formulated. What is also very important is the quality of the meat/offal.

It is important to remember that cats fed pet mince may be getting inconsistent taurine levels. Taurine deficiency can lead to myocardial, ocular, digestive and reproductive problems.

If you need any further advise please consult your local vet

''Pets Mince'' is simply a name for bits and pieces the butchers and supermarkets can''t use for human consumption - instead of throwing it away, they get us to buy it for our dogs. There are therefore no prescribed standards with respect to fat or protein content. In fact some supermarkets incorporated odds and ends of processed meats too, so undoubtedly the stuff could contain cereals and preservatives.

So: what is in pet''s mince is anybody''s guess, and it is therefore impossible to say whether it''s healthy for pets or not - this will vary from batch to batch.

I am not a fan of pets mince you buy at the shops or what you get at a butcher - unless you know the butcher and can be assured of what goes in it.
There is a shop called the muddy dog in Kloof (DBN) that sells a decent pets mince. or google Vondi in Cape Town.
