Period Cramp

Lately i have been experiencing extreme period cramps, sometimes its a few hours, and sometimes last for 2 days (although I am not heavy). My previous period the cramp was so severe that during the course of the day I felt extremely light headed (to the point I almost passed out). This was the first time I ever experience this so could this be related to the severe cramp and low blood? What do I need to do?
