Our expert says:
The prime trigger for excess acid production is stress, so you will have to sit down and carefully assess if going on a slimming diet and increasing your exercise will stress you or not?? If there is even a remote chance that dieting or exercising will make you tense and jittery, then don't do it! You may find that you need to eat a well balanced low-fat diet to lose those couple of kg over a longer period or to use the 6 small meals a day approach to weightloss which will also help to prevent ulcers. All in all, it may be prudent to be under the care of a registered dietitian (visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area). Conversely you could continue with your present diet and do more exercise, but be careful to only engage in exercises that are not super stressful (gymming till you drop, jogging, road running, cycling). Going for walks in the fresh air will probably not be too stressful. Contact your physician at the very first sign of a recurrence of your ulcer symptoms.
