pelvic ultrasound

Is it normal in a male pelvic ultrasound exam to shave the pubic hair off, if so why?

They need to get the probe touching the skin, as ultrasound works with soundwaves and if you have air inbetween, the picture you will get, will not be clear. Normally only hair above the pubic bone will be shaved, as this is where one would normally look at the pelvis. Often they will do a rectal ultrasound if they want to have a look at the prostate gland.
