PE

I''ve been single for a about 7 years and didn''t have any sexual relationships in that time. Now at 49 and having met someone and I am suffering from premature ejaculation, sometimes even before penetration. This never happened before with sexual relationships prior to becoming single. Could there be any reason for this and how do i rectify the situation??

Dear Tin_Man,

PE is the most common male sexual problem and can occur for some men from the start of their sexual relationships or can have an onset at any time in their lives.

The fact that you have not been sexually active for as long as you have can result in engaging in sexual activities again to be highly erotic and sensitive as well as can be tinged with some anxiety which can also heighten sensitivity and thus PE.

You may find that as your confidence grows and you have sex more regularly again you may find the PE naturally gets better. You could masturbate a few hours before you are going to be with your sexual partner to also help reduce the intensity of your arousal which could help with the PE.

If this does not happen then you could look up the masturbatory exercises for learning to master ejaculatory control.
