Pasta for training

Hello,

What is the best pasta to use for training? More in the line of nice muscle mass not bulcking up! Normal white pasta or whole wheat pasta?

Thanks you!

You could eat as much of the ‘best’ pasta that you can find but if the rest of your diet and your training program are not good then the better type pasta will be of no real value when trying to achieve your goals. A registered dietitian can calculate an adequate eating plan for you that incorporates pasta. Whole wheat products are always more desirable than the refined form of food as they provide more vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients such as fibre and anti-oxidants. However, portion control and the accompanying sauce or topping is just as important as choosing the correct type of food. E.g. A tomato based sauce for the pasta and a side salad is better than a cream based pasta with no salad.

Dear Johannes,

Thanks for the question! In your habitual diet whole wheat pasta is the better option as it is high in fibre and generally better for you than the more refined white pasta, BUT if you eat the pasta before a training session it would be best to eat white pasta as the added fibre in the whole wheat pasta can cause an upset stomach whilst training!

Kind regards,
Sunita
