Yes you can eat pasta like the macaroni when you are trying to lose weight, but try and use pasta made from Durum wheat which has a low-GI (check on the label if it is made from Durum wheat). The cheese and white sauce that is usually used to make macaroni and cheese is a problem because most cheeses have a high fat and energy content (for example Cheddar cheese contains 1685 kJ and 33.1 g of fat per 100g). So rather have your macaroni with tomato and vegetable sauce or make your white sauce with low-fat or fat free milk and only use a small amount of Cheddar cheese.
