Our expert says:
If you are suffering from cancer of both the pancreas and the liver then you should be under the care of a registered dietitian to guide you in regard to what foods you can and cannot eat and which foods you need to ingest to assist liver function. Visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area. If the cancer is making you very nauseous then it is important to avoid any foods that may make the nausea worse - this includes rich fatty and full cream foods. You can, therefore, try fat-free milk, yoghurt and cottage cheese as a source of protein and calcium without the fat. If you enjoy eating dry prunes and they agree with you, you can certainly eat them in moderate quantities. If you eat too many prunes you may develop diarrhoea. So have 1-3 a day.
But please do try and get to see a registered dietitian to assist you with an individual diet now that your pancreas and liver have both been affected by cancer.
