painless tonsils lasting over 6 months

Hi Doc,
My tonsils are enlarged and has been so for over 6 months now. I have visited a doctor that prescribed an anti-biotic called adco-amoclav 1000mg. I have completed the course but it did not help. The doctor also said that its not mononucleosis. The tonsils are painless but I do have minor difficulty breathing through my nostrils. I have also been a little flu-ish for the entire duration. I do not have a serious cough but do cough up a little yellowish phlegm after meals etc. I smoke around 4-5 cigarettes a day.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Dear Nicks
If they are very enlarged and chronically inflamed you may need to have them removed. Please see an ENT specialist for this?
