Dear Inge
It sounds like a ganglion cyst- a swelling that often appears on or around the joints and tendons of especially the wrist. It can be the result of overuse of the wrist, but the cause is largely unknown. A cyst can then develop.
If it is very painful, you can have an orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in hand surgery have a look and advise you. Sometimes when you bump the cyst against something, it will spontaneously dissapear. (They used to call it Bible bumps and hit the swelling with a heavy book or Bible!).
