pain below left rib

Hi Doc
A few years ago about 2004 while having liver complications my husband''s doc said while scanning his abdomen his spleen is enlarged but no medication was given and it was more as a passing remark. We considered this to be just so and had moved medical aids and after three months he landed in hospital once again cos of his liver. The new medical aid then refused to pay the over R20000.00 bill as we had not disclosed the enlarged spleen even though we said that it was a passing remark. On and off he has had pain but in the last two weeks he is complaining of the pain. it seems to be more once he has eaten. Any suggestions ??

Hallo Jnet
Is the pain over the spleen area? Enlarged spleen is most commonly caused by infections, blood diseases and liver disease. See http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/enlarged-spleen/ds00871/dsection=causes
What is the problem with his liver?
