You have your periods because you take the hormone -free pills for one week. This changes the levels of hormones in your body and induces a period. Women fall pregnant usually if they miss a Pill or if it is not absorbed due to vomiting or medications which interfere with it. In these circumstances, a breakthrough ovulation can occur.
Anon in incorrect in saying that you ovulate on the Pill. The mini-pill may allow this, but Minerva is not a progestogen only Pill.

Best wishes

Question

When do you ovulate while on birth control pills?

Response

The main purpose of the most widely used birth control pills (combined oral contraception) is to prevent ovulation. So when you are on the average birth control pill you will not ovulate and you will not be able to get pregnant.

There are some kinds of birth control pills that do not prevent ovulation. These are called progestin only pills and they prevent pregnancy by making fertilzation of the egg nearly impossible.

One does ovulate on the pill... i think that person replied to my post too. The pill as far as i know, prohibits the egg to attach to the womb or somehting like that but doesnt make you stop ovulating.
