Oral contraceptives

Why are some oral contraceptives (Yaz, Nordette, Triphasal, etc.) S3 while others (Minerva, Diane &  Ginette) are S4?

I have been on Minerva for several years without experiencing any problems or concerns. I am just wondering now if there is a generic available?

The latter have higher oestrogen concentrations. Minerva and Ginette are generics of Diane, which was the original.
