Dear Anne
I am not aware of a helpline for overweight children, but if you are either a child with problems with your weight or a parent/adult who needs to help an overweight child then please contact your nearest registered dietitian. Visit the Association for Dietetics in SA Website at: www.adsa.org.za and click on "Find a Dietitian" to find a dietitian in your area. Children who struggle with overweight or obesity need to have an individual diet worked out for them which takes their age and growth needs into account while promoting weightloss. One cannot prescribe one weightloss diet for all children of different ages at different stages of development, which is why it is important that each child is assessed by a registered dietitian and is given an individual diet. General rules of sensible eating can be obtained on this Website (click on 'Diet & Nutrition', 'Eating throughout life' and 'Children' or 'Teenagers') and it is also vital to encourage all children to be as active as possible.
Best regards
