necessity for bone scan

I am 59 and overweight, moderately active. No bone problems in me that I know about.
Is there any need for me to have a bone scan? It seems to have become fashionable for women my age to have regular bone scans.

Dear Abba
Usually the menopause is an indication to maybe have a bone density done. If you don't have any obvious risk factors (e.g cortisone use, malignacies, malabsorption etc) you probably don't need one, but discuss this with your gynae if you you go for a check-up
