Our expert says:
If you take in about 1000mg of calcium per day in your diet, you don't need to supplement with calcium. If you think that you don't reach that amount (lots of dairy), you can take any supplement as long as you know what the elemental (true, bio-available) calcium content of that supplement is- it should state so on the label. If you take a caclim carbonate supplement remember to take that with or straight after a meal as you need stomach acid for the calcium to get absorbed. Remember that exercise (weight bearing like walking) at least 3 times per week is also important. For more information you can contact the Osteoporosis Foundation on 021 9317894.
