Q.

Naltrexone

Does a person need a prescription for Naltrexone? Is it even available in South Africa, and if so, where can one get it? Have there been any clinical trials in SA that can confirm its efficacy?

Hi Will

Naltrexone is not available in SA, but Naloxone, another opioid receptor antagonist is.
While both naltrexone and naloxone are full antagonists and will treat an opioid overdose, naltrexone is longer-acting than naloxone, making naloxone a better emergency antidote.
