Nails

My nails are peeling layer for layer. It is so thin that my finger tips are sore. I have spend thousands of rands try to make it stronger. I''m a non smoker and 58 years (young) old.

First try an exclude medical causes like anemia and underactive thyroid with a full blood count, iron level test and TSH test. Let your doctor have a look at your nails to exclude other diseases like psoriasis, fungal infections or Working in water or chemical cleaning agents a lot, very dry cuticles and using formaldehyde nail hardeners or acrylic can also cause peeling. Jojoba oil may be the best to use to rehydrate the nail. If no medical cause is found, discuss with a reputable nail technician to see if using a gel may help to strenghten your nails.
