more sinusitis this winter?

Dear Dr,

Has there been a higher count of people suffering from infected sinuses this winter? It seems like that to me - even friends and family who don' t usually get affected have been on anti-biotics for upper respiratory tract infections. Is this a pollution, seasonal or viral issue?

Dear Anna

This is a very difficult question to answer, as these factors very from region to region. One must also distinguish between upper resiratory tract infections and sinusitis. Overseas travel also plays a role, but it is quite impossible to give you an answer as this needs to be statistically analised.
