Migraine - strokes/memory loss

Hi Doc

I am 41 years old and I''ve been suffering with migraines since I was about 14years old. I have a migraine at least once a month and I cannot put my finger on what''s triggered it. My mom read somewhere over the weekend that migraines are a type of stroke and can cause memory loss etc... I DO have a VERY bad memory and a family history of strokes and brain tumors. Am I just being parranoid or are there some thruth in this?

Thank you

Hallo Paranoid
Migraines do not cause strokes and brain tumours. Some tumours and strokes however may cause headaches because of increased pressure in the brain. Migraines can be treated very successfully and even prevented with the right medication. Migraines are triggered by different things in different people (often low blood sugar, chocolate, cheese, citrus products, stress etc) Have you seen a neurologist yet for a full neurological examination?
